Giant Fear

Text of Poem

The day overwhelmed him with its size,
he read the book of duties marked
tomorrow, unable to comprehend letters
too huge for words. The mountain
with a thundershower barred the path
to its top, horizons raced away,
sky stretched out forever. He searched
for a crevasse to hide his fear
but the book gave no directions for
his return, blocked by a precipice
he felt emptiness swell within him
until he burst into nothing large
enough to be a man.
