Detention

Text of Poem

The wilted flowers
drooping from a vase
memorialize the conflict.
The wounded classroom
bandaged with silence
still suffers from
twisted chairs and
blackboard indignities.
But piled on the teacher’s
desk scrawled papers
confessing surrender
show what forces
once joined here.
